Though you may have come
across the words "manufactured housing", you may not be too sure of what it
means. Throughout the years, manufactured homes were referred to as mobile homes
or trailers. These homes are known to be temporary and with poor quality.
Nowadays, manufactured housing is much different than the one most people know
of. Manufactured homes may not have been built piece by piece, but they are
constructed with the use of the same basic home building principles. This all
starts with a 2 x 4 framework just like a traditional home.
Plywood is
then laid over to come up with the fundamental form of a home. The roof is both
insulated and shingled. Plumbing, electrical wiring and insulation are installed
in their right order. A wallboard or sheet rock is set at the right place, while
electrical switches and outlets are properly installed. Generally, these homes
are fitted with hardware, lighting fixtures, cabinets, carpeting, sheet vinyl
and paint. If ever you are planning to order a customized manufactured home, you
can choose the color, carpet, paint and other finishes. Upgrades in items such
as light fixtures and cabinetry are available just like in traditional
homes.
The reason why manufactured homes are called this way, and the
major difference in their construction is the fact that they are built within a
facility, with a turnaround time of 3 weeks, at the maximum. To build homes on
location, it takes many months to about a year. A single-wide manufactured home
is shipped in one piece, whereas a double-wide one arrives at the location in
two segments and it is connected along a line to come up with a home that is
complete. Though these homes are seated on foundations that are made of
concrete, they are commonly seen on jacks that are situated on a piece of
concrete slab. Stairs and porches can be added where they are suitable. Once the
plumbing and electrical connections are installed, you are ready to move into
your new home.
At present time, you will notice that the finishes outside
are also similar to traditional homes. To customize your modular home or dress
up your existing one, opt for decorator touches, like stone facings, stucco trim
or brick work. The latest skirting also give a permanent feel. Instead of using
outdated corrugated aluminum sheeting, materials are designed to match the
style, color and texture of the walls in the exterior to come up with a more
organized look. You can always take pride in the manufactured homes of today.
